The Bearded Collie, or "Beardie", as it is
affectionately known to those who hold this hearty, herding breed dear,
hails from "Bonnie Scotland", where it has been revered as both a
wonderful family compannion and working dog breed for decades. Large,
energetic and companionable, this intelligent dog breed excels in
agility, and is a great choice for families that need a dog to "herd"
their children. Thought by most to be a cross between the Polish Lowland
Sheepdog and herding dogs from the Scottish Highlands, the Bearded
Collie has enjoyed immense popularity in it's homeland, and is becoming
more and more popular in North America.
If you like a shaggy dog, then this is the breed for
you, but if you don't like the idea of having to brush and groom your
dog on a very regular basis, better to opt for another breed! The
Beardie has a long, soft coat that requires brushing at least once a
week, and regular visits to the groomer. Grooming needs aside, the
Beardie is an extremely beautiful, intelligent, fun loving and
affectionate dog breed that makes a wonderful family companion, baby
sitter, exercise buddy and all-round grrreat pet.

In deciding on a name for your Bearded Collie dog or
puppy, you can find a lot of inspiration in looking at all things
Scottish. There are so many possibilities, from common Scottish first
names like Meagan and Moira, Angus and Duncan to Scottish surnames like
McDonald, Kincaid, Campbell and so on.
There's also a lot of items
that one would associate with Scotland that make unique pet names, such
as Marmalade and Argyll, Haggis and Kilt.
You can also look to literature and mythology! What about MacBeth?
Highlander? Loch Ness (Nessie)? Braveheart? Just let your imagination
run wild. Think of words that might be associated with Scotland, and
then things associated with those things, and you're on your way!
We'll help you get started with a short list of suggestions to the
right. Enjoy!
